Antidepressant Drug Therapy


Preferred treatment in cases of moderate to severe depression.
Used as supplement or alternative to light therapy.
Symptoms begin to abate 2-4 weeks after onset of treatment; full remission may take up to 4 months.
Treatment before arrival of symptoms and taper slowly  during remission of symptoms.
Drugs of choice: Prozac (fluoxetine), Zoloft (sertraline), Paxil (paroxetine), Celexa (citalopram), and Wellbutrin (bupropion).
