SEASONAL AFFECTIVE DISORDER


Seasonal Affective Disorder (SAD) is a mood disorder associated with depression and related to seasonal variations of light.   (Mental Health America, 2012)
More that just “the winter blues” SAD is a depression that occurs each year at the same time during the winter months and ends with the advent of spring or early summer.   (Cleveland Clinic, 2008)
SAD is winter depression, severe enough to meet criteria for clinical depression, developing for at least two consecutive winters, with full remission of depression in the spring and summer.   (Rosenthal et al., 1984)
